Spring Cleaning for Your Truck
After months of snow, road salt, and slush, springtime is the perfect moment to reset your truck’s health and prepare for the busy season ahead.
Brakes: Your truck has been exposed to winter moisture and other contaminants; brake components need inspection.
Check for worn pads or shoes, and check the condition of drums and rotors. S-cams and slack adjusters should be greased at this time.
Charging system: Batteries and electrical components should be inspected. Batteries should also be load tested. Check terminals for corrosion, clean all connections, and spray them with a corrosion protector. Inspect all electrical connections where winter moisture and road chemicals can cause corrosion.
Suspension and steering components: Inspect for worn or damaged parts caused by winter potholes. Look for worn or cracked boots on steering components where moisture and road salt may have entered. Grease all components to purge the contaminated grease and replace with fresh, new grease.
AC system: Check the belt condition and change the cabin filter. Check the system pressure to ensure proper operation before the summer heat arrives.
Spring is a perfect time to wash the undercarriage and engine bay, as road salts and chemicals can work their way into the tiniest nooks and crannies. This can cause premature wear and rusting on a truck’s components.
