Is Your Truck’s Summer Body Ready?

TRUCK-SUMMER-MAINTENANCE-BLOG

Summer is just around the corner, so it’s time to focus on your truck’s summer body! Keeping your cooling systems in check is imperative to your truck’s health and longevity. Our service teams have compiled a to-do list for summer to keep your truck in tip-top shape:

A/C System

Check the A/C in the cabin with a dash thermometer. Air from the A/C should be coming out at least 30 degrees below the ambient cabin temperature. Visually inspect your condenser and cabin air filter to make sure they’re clean and unobstructed. Replace any contaminated components. roadchoice.com

HVAC Filter

HVAC filters should be checked regularly. This filter is your truck’s main line of defense against getting debris in heater cores and A/C evaporators. If the filter is clogged, air flow from vents is reduced, and the HVAC fan motor will work harder to move air. austinfleetservices.com

Cooling Package

Check that the radiator and charge air cooler are clean and fins are not damaged. Use compressed air to carefully blow dust, salt, and other fine debris from your radiator and charge air cooler fins. Check for cracks as you move through the units. Consider flushing with water from a garden hose if needed. If using a pressure washer, care must be taken to prevent damaging tubes or fins. youtube.com

Cooling System Maintenance

Inspect coolant filters and fluid levels regularly, replacing or topping them off as needed. Additionally, test the coolant’s freeze protection at least twice a year. If using conventional, non-Extended Life Coolant (ELC), check for correct pH levels and add Supplemental Coolant Additives (SCA), as needed. Always ensure you are using the correct fluid according to manufacturer specifications and recommended ratios.  mcintoshtrucking.com

Coolant Hoses

Check for any coolant collecting under your truck. This is a sure sign of a leak in your system. You should also inspect your hoses and fittings for visible leaks. A small leak can cause significant fluid loss, impacting your engine and causing extensive, expensive damage to your truck. crossdiesel.com
