2025 National Technician Appreciation Week

When you step foot into a JX Truck Center, you’ll very quickly find that right at the heart of our operations are our talented truck technicians, working hard on an array of projects. Being a technician means continuous growth – as industry standards change, so does a technician’s job.
We spoke with Scott Gillespie, a technician out of JX Truck Center – Indianapolis to hear what it’s like to be a technician. “Tech work was kind of always a passion, something I wanted to get into. I finally made the jump to it in 2017. I started out in a fleet and worked my way up the ladder from there.” Scott graduated from Lincoln Tech in 2017 after attending the school for a little over a year. “I like Peterbilts and Kenworths. They’ve got essentially the same platform, they’re very nice trucks and usually very well maintained.”
Scott loves his career and he loves to learn more with each job. “I like the diversity of my work. Being able to take something apart that’s broken or not running correctly and then putting it back together and watching it roll out the door, knowing that I’m able to do that and do it efficiently, there’s a sense of pride to it,” said Gillespie. “There have been a lot of jobs that have taught me a few things, I’ll never forget those. The first cam job I ever did, I did not realize, I did not know that there was a dowel pin in the back of the cam shaft. I had the engine timed 180 degrees out, it would crank and crank, but it wouldn’t start. So I had to pull it back down, pull it back apart, put a dowel pin in it, and then it fired right back up.”
Scott is one of the many hard working technicians that make, not only JX, but the trucking industry a great place. “I’m just a humble guy that loves to come to work. I love what I do. It’s become a very strong passion of mine. I take a lot of pride in the fact that I can get them up and running and that there are not a lot of people who can do what we do,” said Scott.
